Why Troy Davis was a better man than me.

"May God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls." Troy Davis' last words as he was subjected to state sanctioned murder.

"May God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls." Words I could never say as a dysfunctional justice system allowed me to die for a crime somebody else had committed.

"May God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls.". How does a man say that to his executioners after being so badly misused by a justice system designed to kill him?

I would need to yell. To scream at the top of my lungs that I was being murdered, that this was murder by consent of the State and I hope you never have another peaceful night's sleep. With all the doubt, I would not go peacefully into the night.

"May God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls."

Troy Davis, RIP, and thank you for a lesson in grace.

Probably won't give a fuck tomorrow either.

Just so ya know, I don't anticipate giving much of a fuck for a while. Between friends lost and this, I've about decided that giving a fuck hurts to damn much.

And, just so there's no doubt, the first person who tells me to turn to Jesus or to accept God's will can go fuck themselves, and God and Jesus and all the saints and angels can join in.

Just to be clear.

I don't give a fuck today

Problem with the pregnancy, so, today, I don't give a fuck.

Rick Perry, Man of the (White, Christian, Heterosexual) People

Rick Perry got a free pass into the Texas Governor's office with the election/appointment of George W. Bush to the White House in 2000. Prior to that, the political progress of the one time Texas Agricultural Commissioner was financed heavily by a group call WallBuilders, led David Barton, a virulently anti LGBT "historian" and favorite of de-throned Fox News Channel Whack-job-in-Chief Glenn Beck.

No, they are not lobbying group pushing the interests of drywallers, bricklayers and/or building framers.

That would be nice.

WallBuilders is a rightwing Christian Conservative group that spends it's time revising history. They were behind the recent revision of Texas school history books. (John Calvin more important than Thomas Jefferson in US history? Really?)

Aaaah.....but, back to Rick Perry's flip on LGBT rights.....what's that, little neo-con/federalist campers? You didn't know that at one time Perry supported the idea states deciding on issues of LGBT marriage? Here's a hanky, dry your eyes.

Since then, however, in order to appease his base, Perry has signed the National Organization for Marriage pledge. The one that requires signatories to push a marriage amendment to the constitution.

You know, big government stuff.

From Washington.

Which Perry, according to the title of his book FedUp!, America needs to be saved from.

So, to wrap up. Rick Perry (a rabid states rights federalist who opined that Texas should secede), to appease his biggest and oldest political financier, (a group of virulently anti-LGBT history revisionists that worked hard to make sure, along with Perry's budget ballet, that Texas produces some of the most ignorant high school grads in US history), signed a pledge to use the power of Washington (which is a city he hates) and the federal government (an institution he wants to make "as inconsequential as possible" in people's lives) to pass a constitutional amendment that will be very consequential in people's lives.

There's another one comin'

No Bachmann bshing, or TP tp'ing.....there's another baby coming. Number 2, a little ??????? for Charlie (who says he wants 3 or 4, but that'll change when he realizes he has to share) and yes I am excited and happy, but not as nervous as the first time.

But still real happy.

The price of standing by your principles.....

If the Tea Party keeps on "standing by their principles", I think we may see the emergence of a new second rate former super power. You cannot keep cutting without drawing blood.

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/08/sp-downgrades---full-ratings-agency-statement.php

As much as Speaker Boehner & Co. want to believe it's all about spending, it's not.

Thursday, July 28, 2011

Make a deal, already.

Speaker Boehner, I know you are afraid of the Tea Party. I know that the 80-odd Tea Party freshmen gave you your House majority, and you the Speakership...however, I have also seen you try to reach a solution with President Obama, then be pulled back by Majority Leader Cantor.

Do the math. There are 80-odd TP backed representatives. The majority of the House, of both parties are realists who WILL support a plan that is a compromise involving both cuts and revenue increases. The same is true in the Senate. The bi-partisan majority is made up of realists willing to compromise.

Now, you may ask, why would a Canadian care? Excellent question.

If the USA goes into default, you will, again, drag most of the world into recession. That's what comes of being "Leaders of the Free World." You have a responsibility beyond your borders and electorate.

Please try to live up to it.

Americans for Prosperity, the Koch Bros. and other evil bastards.

Recently, residents of the Delray neighborhood in Detroit came home to find eviction notices in their doors. The notices informed them that their homes were subject to seizure to make room for the construction of a new commercial crossing from Windsor ON to Detroit MI. The new crossing will ease congestion at the overworked (I know from experience) Ambassador Bridge. Manny Maroun, who owns the Ambassador Bridge, is opposed to the new crossing, about 2 miles/3 km down river. He's gonna lose a lot of money on this and is not happy. Detroit International Bridge, Maroun's company, denied any involvement in the notices.

Shaken residents soon found that the "Eviction Notices" were fakes distributed by the Koch Bros. backed conservative activist group Americans For Prosperity. (Detroit International Bridge, Maroun's company, denied any involvement in the "notices".) According to AFP Michigan, the notices were intended to get residents to contact their state representatives to oppose the bridge.

Classy move.

I could just see the meeting that devised this.

"We have to find a way to drum up opposition to this new bridge. Ity's a joint public/private thing, so that means Big Government involvement, which makes it evil."

"How about fliers explaining all the potential economic pitfalls, and ask people to consider the implications?"

"Nah...how about we put fake eviction notices in the doors?"

"The neighborhood has lots of old folks, and Detroit has the highest foreclosures in the country. We'll scare the shit out of a lot of people."

"Yeah...brilliant isn't it. Let's do lunch."

I have to ask, just exactly how evil does a group have to be to engage in this? I knew the Koch Bros. were nasty, manipulative men with little regard for things like facts, truth or people, but this is a pretty low move.

http://www.freep.com/article/20110607/BUSINESS06/110607025/Conservative-group-Fake-eviction-notices-were-meant-startle-people-?odyssey=nav|head

Now can I compare the Koch Bros. and their minions to Hitler, Stalin, Goebbels, or some other historical really-not-very-nice people?

Rapture Prep:Day 1.

As has been well publicized, according to Harold Camping, the end is nigh, the Rapture is May 21, 2011, with the End of the World coming Oct. 21, 2011.

Leave it to the Almighty to bugger up May Two Four and Halloween.

Since I anticipate that the ranks of my friends and family won't be too heavily thinned by Saturday's anticipated festivities, I am presenting a series of advisory posts for the Rapture.

Today's Message : Rapture Day Social Etiquette.

1) DO NOT laugh at any clergy who are not Raptured. They're surprised enough, don't make it worse. Wait until at least Tuesday, by then it`s ironically funny, especially Pat Robertson.

2) Abandoned cars should not be driven off right away, the owner might just be getting a jug of milk.

3) If you run into Charlie Sheen, approach slowly, speak softly.........laugh softly.

4) Don`t ask any of the Dead in Christ who owe you money for re-payment....that`s just tacky.

5) Just a reminder to a-ha, Casper Van Dien, (to name a few), your careers will NOT be among the dead returned to health for the Rapture.

6) Expect abortion clinic bombers and their apologists to be a bit twitchy for a few days. Encourage them to work with explosives, film the results, post on FB. Share the laughs.

I hope today`s hints were helpful. Remember, we can all have a fun Rapture if we are polite to each other.

Tomorrow : Post-Rapture Career Opportunities.

Bin Laden's dead..so far so good.....so now what?

So Osama bin Laden was killed by Navy SEALS in Pakistan, apparently in Islamabad.. Now what? I find myself wondering if this is just preparing to wrap up the "War on Terror" or if it was taking advantage of new intel.

The web is buzzing with "they knew where he was for years" theories (I expect mainly from the tinfoil fedora crowd), and the remains are shark shit by now, so there will be the inevitable Elvis-like sightings for the next 30 or so years.......(Osama flipping burgers at a White Castle in Poughkeepsie NY has a certain Enquirer feel to it.)

All that aside, what has been achieved? Tomorrow, somebody, somewhere will decide that the best way to express his/her dissatisfaction with the status quo is to make something and/or someone go boom.

What has changed?

Osama is dead, but a war that is impossible to win will drag on, as soon as a a new causus belli is found.

Daylight come and we had to go home.....

Aaaah...the week in Jamaica (mon)....the Red Stripe beer, the rum, the sun, the fat European in the little black Speedo (every paradise needs a dark spot). A week in the sun after 7 years without a vacation, me, my lovely missus.

Yeah, there's a bit of rum in the house....I might share.

St. Patrick & the snakes

As the lads and lasses celebrate the life of a Romano-British priest by getting ass over ankles drunk, let's take a look at Paddy, and the snakes.

According to the generally accepted legend, Patrick drove the snakes from Ireland. Okay, for starters, there is no evidence that there were ever any snakes in Ireland. Worms, yup, and they're still there, a lizard or two, but no snakes.

Ever.

Snakes were, however, a symbol of the druids. So, maybe, what the annual bacchanalia and brawlfest celebrates is driving the druids out of Ireland. Because we can't have any competition for the adoration of the people, now can we?

So, if you'll excuse me, I'll forgo wearing green.

Though I will have a (non-green) beer.

Glenn Beck:Raging fucktard or Divine PR hack?

So, sez His Beckness, King of What the Fuckness, the events in Japan, from earthquake through on to nuclear plant explosions are a message from God....or not...but probably are.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2011/03/14/2011-03-14_glenn_beck_japan_earthquake_could_be_message_from_god_to_follow_the_ten_commandm.html

http://mediamatters.org/blog/201103140010

I'm guessing Glenn can find Divine purpose in a particularly satisfying bowel movement, so the Earthquake/tsunami/volcano/stewing nuclear disaster exacta must've seemed like a foregone "God's got something to say" hint and a half.

Beck goes to "obey the Ten Commandments" eventually, but, given some of Prof. Beck's chalk board logic  gymnastics (and I didn't realize how flexible logic could be), I have to ask if he got the message right.

Maybe Glenn misread the memo.

Maybe the message was, "Stop ripping apart the world for cheap energy!!!!!!! You've got wind, solar, geo thermal, wave motion!!!!! Fuck OPEC, fuck nukes!!!!!!"

Maybe the message was, "OK, I'm gonna screw with another country, this one's got a healthier set up than the one I curb stomped last year, but you seem to have forgotten about them, so let's really smack 'em around."

Could be,  "You think a shaky economy's bad? Check this out, bitches!!!!"

Hell bells, maybe it was "Sell Apple stock at $350.00".

Or, and here's one. Maybe there's no God, and some tectonic plates snapped, one of them dropped, so huge amounts of ocean water were displaced, causing a tsunami. The resulting quakes damaged nuclear power plants, the sea water flooded the nuclear plant diesel powered emergency cooling pumps, and now we got a problem, as well as an opportunity to re examine our confidence in the safety of nuclear power.

Naaaah....God was telling Beck to put $50 on Grandpa's Hemorrhoid in the fifth to win at Santa Anita.

Please, S. Dak., get your legislators laid...........

The assaults on women's privacy and medical rights from South Dakota continue unabated.

http://motherjones.com/mojo/2011/02/south-dakota-abortion-crisis-pregnancy-center-bill

Now, the SD legislators are trying to force women seeking an abortion to visit a pro-life center to be counseled by a bunch of unqualified volunteers before they can undergo the procedure.

Between Nebraska's nearly identical bill to the recently shelved SD bill in my previous rant, and this, maybe everyone should stop worrying about the "flood of Canadians" southward, and we Canucks may have to start worrying about a northward flood of abortion refugees.

South Dakota needs a hobby......

High on my list of things that piss me off are meddling, moralizing, sanctimonious jacktards who feel the need to impose their morality on others. I have no problem with opposition to acts that directly harm others. Don't drink and drive, don't steal, if you must smoke a bit of Mother Nature, don't do it when there are children in the house.

Fair enough.

So, I get a tad annoyed when I hear about anti same sex legislation. It ain't nobody's business, nobody is forcing anyone into anything.

Same with abortion. Makes no never mind if I am pro life or pro choice. What matters is the mother and her situation and wishes. Various protesters and activists who picket and impose on the hardest decision a woman will ever have to make should pack their shit up and go back to censoring Brady Bunch episodes (everyone just knows that little whore Marcia was after Greg) and mind their own fucking business.

So, when someone decides that killing a doctor who provides abortions is somehow justified, I usually shake my head and just say a silent "Thank you" that murder is still murder, and that no government would justify that.

Until now.

South Dakota, your legislators need to get laid. Find 'em a nice girl or goat or whatever it takes.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/15/south-dakota-abortion-bill_n_823326.html

http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/02/south-dakota-hb-1171-legalize-killing-abortion-providers

http://legis.state.sd.us/sessions/2011/Bill.aspx?File=HB1171HJU.htm

For those of you wondering, the proposed legislation could make killing an abortionist a justifiable homicide if the killer decided he was saving the life of the unborn child. This from the same state that wrote anti-abortion legislation that made no exceptions for incest or rape.

Really?

Ye Gods, get these idiots laid. Maybe they'll start worrying about stuff that is their business instead of imposing their values on others.

Aaaaand.........my wife`s friend and her adventures in marital blitz

As I sit here, gently typing, my wife is busy on Facebook chat. Her friend`s husband, who we will refer to as the Jackass, left her on New Years Eve. Sometimes, the biggest turds need a special occassion. He was a possessive, jealous, mentally abusive head case. She has had a life of emotional abuse at the hands of her mother.

The Jackass and MWF (My Wife`s Friend) had four kids before they were married (no problem with that), and were pressured by their church (LDS) to marry.

She feels "unworthy" to go to church.

Ouch.

Now onto the Sacred Cow Butchery portion of our show.........(you might want to send the kids to bed for this).......

Given that I saw Jackass`problems from the first meeting, given that MWF told all and sundry about his quirks, why the Hell would the church think that marriage for these two was a good thing? Why did they not tell her to walk...nay RUN  from this psycho before something bad happens?

For the kids?

That's good.

"Yes kids, your mommy stayed with the Loose Stool (who walked out on New Year's Eve) for you. Don't you feel special?"

Anyone who tells someone to stay in a bad relationship "for the children", "because marriage is for life", "because God wants you to" or any number of other platitudinous droppings should have their mouths stapled shut.

I am not saying split at the first argument, however, if your Significant Other is the source of nothing but pain, some Ordained Miscreant is using his Holy Prophetic Knowitallness to tell you "stick it out", maybe you want to talk to someone qualified....like a kindergarten TA.

As soon as God/Allah/Flying Spaghetti Monster (ok, maybe FSM is legitimately useful0 enters into any discussion of why to stay in a marriage, the advisor in question has got nothing and you may want to go to the bullpen for some relief.

Egypt, con't

Events are racing along in Egypt, so I'm wondering about the rest of the region. Are some of the other regional dictators taking note? Will they decide on preemptive action, either progressive or regressive? And how will the various global powers react? And how much blood will have to be spilled?

Really....we're really gonna have to go through this shit again?

Ok, now, try to keep your collective heads from exploding at the sheer level of fucking stupid involved

Egypt is burning.....

I do not begrudge the Egyptian people their right to try for some form of an open, democratic government, I (along with the rest of the world) don't have that right. If they decide to re-institute the Royalty and go with a British style constitutional monarchy, so be it.

The USA, as one of the current regime's largest backers for the last 30 years, is trying, as best I can see, to make the transition as smooth as is possible. However, if the Egyptians somehow end up with an Islamic nationalist government, will the US and other powers accept that and try to maintain relations, or will there be an other Gaza/West Bank fiasco (congratulations on your fair and open elections, but you didn't use your freedom to elect who we wnated, DO OVER!!!!)?

I don't know, but I do care. The current wave of protests and calls for reform can be an opportunity (as long as Halliburton and other assorted commercial bastards can be kept out) to try to begin righting the wrongs of an oil greedy western world, or the mistakes of the last 60 years can just be repeated, and nothing improved.

Time for us to decide if all the bleating and braying about "human rights and dignity" and "honouring the will of the people" are more than bleating and braying, or serious goals for the future.

Where I hangout and annoy people

http://standupwithpetedominick.com, c'mon in, have a look around, we're very reasonable for a bunch of political loons.

Please allow me to introduce myself.....

I'm a man of neither wealth nor taste. I drive a truck, which leaves me time to either ponder the mysteries of life and the vagaries of the universe or scratch m'self.

I spend too much time away from Mrs. Manny and the Little Dude, but sometimes ya gotta do and you know the rest. I lean left politically, right when drunk. I am Wiccan, (Norse pantheon, FWIW).

Eventually, I'll get the hang of this stuff, so bear with me, or if you're a bear, human with me.
