"May God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls." Troy Davis' last words as he was subjected to state sanctioned murder.
"May God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls." Words I could never say as a dysfunctional justice system allowed me to die for a crime somebody else had committed.
"May God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls.". How does a man say that to his executioners after being so badly misused by a justice system designed to kill him?
I would need to yell. To scream at the top of my lungs that I was being murdered, that this was murder by consent of the State and I hope you never have another peaceful night's sleep. With all the doubt, I would not go peacefully into the night.
"May God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls."
Troy Davis, RIP, and thank you for a lesson in grace.
Sweet sweet unconsciousness
There's somethin' happenin' here, and I'm pretty sure I'm not to happy about it.

Probably won't give a fuck tomorrow either.
Just so ya know, I don't anticipate giving much of a fuck for a while. Between friends lost and this, I've about decided that giving a fuck hurts to damn much.
And, just so there's no doubt, the first person who tells me to turn to Jesus or to accept God's will can go fuck themselves, and God and Jesus and all the saints and angels can join in.
Just to be clear.

Rick Perry, Man of the (White, Christian, Heterosexual) People
Rick Perry got a free pass into the Texas Governor's office with the election/appointment of George W. Bush to the White House in 2000. Prior to that, the political progress of the one time Texas Agricultural Commissioner was financed heavily by a group call WallBuilders, led David Barton, a virulently anti LGBT "historian" and favorite of de-throned Fox News Channel Whack-job-in-Chief Glenn Beck.
No, they are not lobbying group pushing the interests of drywallers, bricklayers and/or building framers.
That would be nice.
WallBuilders is a rightwing Christian Conservative group that spends it's time revising history. They were behind the recent revision of Texas school history books. (John Calvin more important than Thomas Jefferson in US history? Really?)
Aaaah.....but, back to Rick Perry's flip on LGBT rights.....what's that, little neo-con/federalist campers? You didn't know that at one time Perry supported the idea states deciding on issues of LGBT marriage? Here's a hanky, dry your eyes.
Since then, however, in order to appease his base, Perry has signed the National Organization for Marriage pledge. The one that requires signatories to push a marriage amendment to the constitution.
You know, big government stuff.
From Washington.
Which Perry, according to the title of his book FedUp!, America needs to be saved from.
So, to wrap up. Rick Perry (a rabid states rights federalist who opined that Texas should secede), to appease his biggest and oldest political financier, (a group of virulently anti-LGBT history revisionists that worked hard to make sure, along with Perry's budget ballet, that Texas produces some of the most ignorant high school grads in US history), signed a pledge to use the power of Washington (which is a city he hates) and the federal government (an institution he wants to make "as inconsequential as possible" in people's lives) to pass a constitutional amendment that will be very consequential in people's lives.

But still real happy.

The price of standing by your principles.....
If the Tea Party keeps on "standing by their principles", I think we may see the emergence of a new second rate former super power. You cannot keep cutting without drawing blood.

As much as Speaker Boehner & Co. want to believe it's all about spending, it's not.

Make a deal, already.
Speaker Boehner, I know you are afraid of the Tea Party. I know that the 80-odd Tea Party freshmen gave you your House majority, and you the Speakership...however, I have also seen you try to reach a solution with President Obama, then be pulled back by Majority Leader Cantor.
Do the math. There are 80-odd TP backed representatives. The majority of the House, of both parties are realists who WILL support a plan that is a compromise involving both cuts and revenue increases. The same is true in the Senate. The bi-partisan majority is made up of realists willing to compromise.
Now, you may ask, why would a Canadian care? Excellent question.
If the USA goes into default, you will, again, drag most of the world into recession. That's what comes of being "Leaders of the Free World." You have a responsibility beyond your borders and electorate.
Please try to live up to it.
